The VC Wizards List
Israel's Best Venture Capital Investors in 2023
Edited by: Yael Magder, Editorial Operations: Chase Stempel

Our Story
In 2023, the venture capital scene is witnessing a resurgence of traditional investment strategies, marked by a shift towards early-stage, high-conviction investing with tangible returns. This trend is predominantly reflected in the Israeli VC wizards list, showcasing a return to the core principles of venture capital.

The Midas List, a collaborative effort with TrueBridge Capital Partners, has been a longstanding barometer for the top 100 tech investors, charting the dynamic nature of venture capital. This year, Avi Eyal, celebrated for his investment in Monday.com, and Gili Raanan, investor in Axis, Island, and Bionic, are leading the pack.
The list this year is significantly influenced by the performance of earlier IPOs rather than recent startup valuations, which have seen a downturn (except for SpaceX). Notably, the 2020 IPO of Airbnb has propelled 13 investors to prominence on this list. Similarly, Coinbase’s 2021 IPO has been advantageous for 11 investors, including Chris Dixon, formerly ranked No. 1. Other IPOs like Snowflake, Kuaishou, and Coupang have also played a crucial role.

The 2023 edition of the Midas List features just 7 new entries and 5 returnees, a decrease from the previous year. It includes 11 female investors, maintaining the previous year's count, and introduces the first Black investor from Base10 Partners.
The criteria for ranking on the list involve evaluating investors based on their portfolio companies that have either gone public or been acquired for a minimum of $200 million in the past five years, or those that have doubled their private valuation to at least $400 million in the same timeframe. The focus is on tangible, liquid exits over unrealized returns. The list, which values both early-stage investment success and significant cash returns by later-stage investors, is derived from a blend of public data and submissions from hundreds of investment partners from numerous firms.

It's important to note that any investor dismissed or resigned due to misconduct is ineligible for inclusion in the Midas List.
